12th September 1880 – Signed letter on Rangers headed paper from Peter McNeil in his role as Rangers F.C. Honorary Match Secretary to an unknown person at Nottingham Forest F.C.

On reading the letter it becomes clear that it is dated wrongly and should be dated 1880. Easter was on the 17th April in 1881 yet the letter discusses a future match being arranged for that date. On accepting the proposed dates, a postscript has been added to the bottom of the letter stating “Accept April 17/81”. However, even though the date was accepted, there is no record of any match taking place with Nottingham Forest on 17th April in either 1881 or 1882. The other two matches mentioned with Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers did take place in 1881 on the dates stated. The Mr. Widdowson mentioned in the letter was Sam Widdowson, who was the Nottingham Forest Chairman between 1879-1884.

14th August 1920 – Postcard addressed to William Struth from the Scottish 2nd XI Football Association informing Rangers that they have been drawn to play against Clyde at Shawfield Park on the 4th September 1920.

1st November 1923 – Letter from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. confirming receipt their share payment in respect of a Mr. Humphrey’s expense in attending a Referee Committee meeting.

20th December 1923 – Letter from the Glasgow Football Association to Rangers F.C. confirming receipt of Rangers subscription to the league for the 1924-25 season.

13th June 1940 – Letter from the Glasgow Charity Football Cup Committee to Rangers F.C. informing them that the cup will be presented to them on 18th June in the Council Hall at the City Chambers. Rangers won the cup after defeating Clyde 7-2 on corners during a 1-1 draw at Hampden Park on 29th May 1940 in front of a crowd of 12,924.

13th August 1956 – Letter received from Valencia F.C. inquiring as to the possibility of transferring Sammy Baird to Valencia. In May & June of that year, Rangers played 3 friendlies against Valencia as part of a small Spanish Tour. It would seem that the hosts were very impressed with Sammy Baird’s contribution in those matches.

19th February 1957 – Letter from the Scottish 2nd XI Football Association to Rangers F.C. confirming receipt of the Associations share of gate taking from a recent match.

13th March 1957 – Handwritten account of takings and expenses from a Scottish League v Football League match held at Ibrox.

14th March 1957 – Letter and copy of Referee’s report from the Scottish Football Association received by Rangers F.C. relating to a an incident of bottles being thrown onto the pitch during a match against Motherwell at Fir Park on 9th March.

29th March 1957 – Letter from A. G. McBain (Chartered Accountants) to Rangers F.C. in relation to dealing with the Inspector of Taxes on behalf of the club.

29th March 1957 – Letter from the Scottish Schools Football Association to Rangers F.C. relating to a ‘Glasgow v Rest’ Schools match played at Ibrox on the 25th March.

30th March 1957 – Letter from the Scottish 2nd XI Football Association to Rangers F.C. in relation to fees due to Rangers for Ibrox being used as the venue for the Scotland v England (Under 23’s) match on 26th February.

c. March 1957 – Travel itinerary for Rangers party attending the England v Scotland Home Championship match at Wembley on the 6th April.

26th April 1957 – Letter from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. informing the club of their decision in relation to the bottle throwing incident at Fir Park on 9th March.

27th April 1957 – Letter from John F. Wilson to Rangers F.C. accepting their co-opting him onto the Rangers board.

30th April 1957 – Letter from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. requesting a completed payment certificate in respect to Entertainments Duty for the Glasgow Charity Cup tie against Celtic to be played at Ibrox on the 1st May.

April 1957 – Letter from the St. Johnston F.C. to Rangers F.C. informing the club of proposals that St. Johnstone intend to make at that years Scottish Football Association Annual General Meeting.

1st May 1957 – Letter from the Scottish Football League to Rangers F.C. granting permission for Rangers to pay the sum of £750 as a benefit to George Young in his final year as Rangers player.

6th May 1957 – Handwritten account of takings and expenses associated with the Glasgow Charity Cup Final against Queen’s Park at Ibrox. Rangers won the match 2-1 in front of a crowd of 22,000.

9th May 1957 – Letter from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. in relation to payments to Rangers players involved in the Scotland v Spain match at Hampden on the 8th May.

24th May 1957 – Letters from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. requesting payment for tickets allocated to the club for the Scotland v Spain match at Hampden Park on 8th May.

24th May 1957 – Letter from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. requesting payment for tickets allocated to the club for the Falkirk v Kilmarnock Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park on 20th April.

15th August 1957 – Letter from David Meiklejohn (as Partick Thistle Manager) to Rangers F.C. providing payment to Rangers for their share of gate takings from the Scottish League Cup tie played at Firhill on 14th August.

21st August 1957 – Land Valuation Notice sent to Rangers F.C. by the Glasgow City Assessor.

28th September 1957 – Letter from Scottish Football League to Rangers F.C. returning unsold tickets for the Celtic v Clyde League Cup Semi-Final tie played at Ibrox on the 28th September.

7th October 1957 – Letter from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. providing payment to Rangers players involved in the Ireland v Scotland Home Championship match played at Windsor Park, Belfast on 5th October.

8th January 1958 – Letter from Norwich Union to Rangers F.C. with regards to fire insurance cover for various parts of Ibrox Park.

14th January 1958 – Letter from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. relating to outstanding expenses due to a Mr. R. H. Davidson (Referee).

15th January 1958 – Letter from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. requesting a friendly match between Rangers and a Scotland XI team to be played at Ibrox on 17th February.

16th January 1958 – Confirmation by the Scottish Football League on receipt of their share of gate takings from the Rangers v Hibernian League match played at Ibrox on 11th January.

17th January 1958 – Letter from the Glasgow Football Association to Rangers F.C. providing payment of the clubs share of takings from the Glasgow Cup Final against Third Lanark played at Ibrox on 18th December. The match ended in a 1 – 1 draw and was replayed on 31st March 1958 with Rangers winning 4 – 2.

20th January 1958 – Letter from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. further proposing that proceeds (after deduction of match expenses) in the proposed friendly between Rangers and a Scotland XI be split equally between both parties.

21st January 1958 – Letter from the Irish Football Association to Rangers F.C. providing payment to Rangers for William Simpson’s involvement in the Ireland v Italy World Cup Qualifying match played at Windsor Park, Belfast on 15th January.

10th March 1958 – Letter from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. in relation to an ongoing pay dispute with turnstile attendants.

13th March 1958 – Letter from the Scottish 2nd XI Football Association to Rangers F.C. providing the club with the necessary arrangements for the 1st Leg of the forthcoming Scottish 2nd XI Cup Final between Rangers & Celtic to be played at Celtic Park on 15th March.

31st March 1958 – Breakdown of takings and expenses in relation to the Glasgow Cup Final replay between Rangers and Third Lanark played at Ibrox on 31st March.

2nd April 1958 – Letter from the English Football Association to Rangers F.C. in relation to T.V. appearance fees for Rangers players featuring in the England v Scotland (under 23) match played at Goodison Park, Liverpool on 15th January 1958.

3rd April 1958 – Letter from Norwich Union to Rangers F.C. providing a quote for a Professional Accident insurance policy for the Directors of the club. It is worth noting that this quote was requested less than 2 months after the Manchester United Munich disaster on the 6th February.

14th April 1958 – Letter from Scot Symon of Rangers F.C. to The Scottish Football League requesting a change of referee on Police advice for the forthcoming Scottish League match against Raith Rovers to be played at Ibrox on 16th April.

22nd July 1958 – Letters from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. providing payment of fees due to Rangers players A. Scott, E. Caldow, S. Baird & I. McColl for representing Scotland in the 1958 World Cup tournament in Sweden and and in a International friendly match against Poland in Warsaw on 1st June.

24th July 1958 – Letter from UEFA to Rangers F.C. acknowledging receipt of monies due in relation to Rangers home European Cup ties against St. Etienne & A.C. Milan.

c. July 1958 – Letter from Rangers Manager Scot Symon to the Scottish Football League proposing suitable kick off times for the forthcoming 1958-59 season.

30th September 1958 – Letter from the Scottish Football League to Rangers F.C. inviting the Rangers Secretary J.R. Simpson to a pre-match dinner before the Scottish Football League v The Football League match being played at Ibrox on the 8th October 1958.

7th May 1959 – Letter from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. providing payment of monies due to the club for hosting the Scotland XI v Scottish League XI match at Ibrox on 16th March 1959.

24th June 1959 – Letter from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. requesting payment for paying the clubs entry fee for the forthcoming European Cup competition.

21st May 1962 – Letter from Glasgow and District Secondary Schools Football League to Rangers F.C. thanking the club for hosting the Scotland v England Schoolboy International match on the 12th May.

3rd October 1962 – Letter from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. acknowledging receipt of monies relating to expenditure incurred by the match officials from the Rangers v Sevilla European Cup Winners Cup match played at Ibrox on 5th September 1962.

23rd August 1963 – Letter from the National Playing Fields Association to Rangers F.C. thanking the club for the financial donation gratefully received.

6th September 1963 – Letter from the Scottish Football League to Rangers F.C. providing payment of monies due to Rangers players J. Greig, J. Baxter, W. Henderson, R. Brand & D. Wilson and Rangers Trainer D. Kinnear for the Irish Football League v Scottish Football League match played at Windsor Park, Belfast on 4th September.

5th October 1963 – Letter from M. Macleod and Company Travel Limited to Rangers F.C. confirming flight arrangements for club personnel relating to the Real Madrid v Rangers European Cup tie played at the Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid on the 9th October.

13th November 1963 – Letter from the Canadian Soccer Football Association to Rangers F.C. discussing the possibility of a potential tour of Canada by the club.

2nd December 1963 – Letter from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. requesting monies due for tickets allocated to the club for the England v Rest of the World friendly played at Wembley Stadium, London on 23rd October.

5th December 1963 – Letter from the Scottish Football Association to Rangers F.C. providing payment of monies due to Rangers players J. Greig & J. Forrest from the Wales v Scotland (under 23) match played at Wrexham on the 4th December.

28th January 1964 – Letter from Ellis & Buckle Ltd to Rangers F.C. relating to an insurance claim against a fire that occurred at the Albion Stadium on 25th January.
